Norway. Words are not enough.
It has been a few weeks since the shootings in Norway. Still we are speechless and there are no words that can express how we feel – or just how much our hearts bleed for our friends in Norway who suffer for their losses.
Norway is a small country and a peaceful one at that. Whether directly or indirectly affected by this act of mindless and horrific violence, the entire nation stands in shock and disbelief.
There simply is nothing one can say to even begin to comfort. We want all our Norwegian friends to know that we too mourn with you and more than ever, respect and champion your beliefs in democracy and peace.
Thanks also to so many of you who have written to us here at Scandi Kitchen, offering your sympathy and support. We know it means a lot to many people. We have forwarded your mails where appropriate and we have shared your thoughts.
One of our friends, Aidan, has in the light of this tragedy raised an impressive £800 in solidarity for the Norwegian Refugee Relief who carry out excellent work front end in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia. What an amazing feat, Aidan - we salute you and we hope many others join you in this. If you want to show your support, feel free to donate to this cause and in turn help some of the suffering in Africa in this horrific drought that kills a child every 6 minutes. You can donate in solidarity for Norway to Africa here http://www.nrc.no/donate

Thanks again for your kind words. Feel free to leave comments here on the blog too if you want to.
There is a memorial walk arranged for end of September at the Norwegian Church - we will update you nearer the time.
Lots of love

Re: the above, the hard work was really done by my colleagues at Precise Media and friends and family in giving so generously to the Norwegian Refugee Council so I salute them. IMHO a great cause for anyone imbued with the spirit of internationalism following recent events (as I like to think of it, a chance to try and help heal two global wounds).
The Norwegian Seamen's Church is (I believe) taking donations through to September-end or thereabouts for Norway's own memorial fund for the victims of the terrible events of July 22nd(I guess you can check with them and get further details at the church).
Nice that Scandi Kitchen is here as a tireless focal point and as de facto ambassadors for the Anglo-Scandinavian community. Long may it continue. After the events in Oslo and Utoeya, we said: 'Idag er vi alle nordmenn.' But this could be feasibly extended to: 'Vi er alle nordmenn alltid.' And Scandi Kitchen does in its own way make that vision more tangible. Thank you.
