The first three Van Veeteren films are released as a DVD box set by Arrow Films.

“The Weeping Girl”, available from Pan Macmillan, features Van Veeteren’s protégé Ewa Moreno investigating her most perplexing case yet... A community is left reeling after a teacher – Arnold Maager – is convicted of murdering a female pupil. The girl was pregnant with Maager’s child.

Years later, on her eighteenth birthday, Maager’s daughter finally learns the terrible truth about her father. Desperate for answers, Mikaela travels to the institution where Maager has been held since his trial. But soon afterwards she inexplicably vanishes.

The Killing 3 - when, when, when, when?

Not for quite a while, dear reader...

Forbrydelsen 3 (The Killing 3) is set for release in Denmark in September 2012.  This time, Sarah Lund (complete with a new partner, seeing as the old ones either die or turn out to be baddies), gets involved with a murder of a seaman - and the trail takes her on a trip through the economical crisis and general political maze.  Apparently, its called something along the lines of "Murder in the finance world".  Hopefully, that is a working title...

We can't wait.  But we'll have to.  And those of you who do not speak Danish will have to wait even longer.

Pu-ha.  Det' naesten ikke til at holde ud.

Ps - yes Brix is in it still...  Phew.

Lilyhammer - a new TV series. About a mobster moving to... Lillehammer.

A new film, staring that dude from The Sopranos (No, not Tony himself, the other one - the stupid one, you know... the: "just when I thought I was out, the pull me back in" dude).

We've decided we're going to watch this, even if it does look suspiciously awful.  Why?  It has guns, booze, scantily clad people and the mafia in it.  Oh, and it is set in Norway.

First episode airs on 6th Feb and is available for streaming online.

Girl with the Dragon Tatoo - Take II (the American version)

So, they did it with Let the Right One In.  Sigh. And now they're doing it with the Stieg Larsson trilogy:  making an American re-make.

So, in our opinion, amazing films have no need to be re-made just because there is an audience that find subtitles too tricky.  Still, one must not halt the opportunity to make the fight for Steig Larssons millions even fiercer by adding to the pot of gold.  But: Show us the American re-make of a film that was better than the original, and we'll admit defeat.  Oh, please, enlighten us.

The film's people have scouted locations in Halsingland in Sweden, in particular in the town of Bollnas.  A very small place right in the very middle of Sweden, North of Stockholm, it is actually a pretty perfect setting.

Bollnäs_kommun Bollnas

Now for the juicy bit.  Is Noomi going to play the lead in the American versions of the film?  Ohhh, no, no, no, the director says she is "far too pretty and cute" for that.  Instead he has chosen Rooney Mara.  Well, at least he did not pick Carey Mulligan...  Far too scary.

Noomi Rooney-Mara

Noomi:  too cute   Rooney:  rough looking

And now for the male lead of the sloppy Mikael.  Again, the Americans went with the rough looking lead, seeing as the Swedish actor was far too cute ot take on the role.  Yes, folks, we're not kidding:  Mr Daniel Craig.

Mikael Daniel-craig952

...and so we all wait with baited breath...  Bring it on.
